‘Summer Sounds’— Ark education charity, 2021
I was asked by Ark Music to create illustrations and the visual identity for their online and in-school summer 2021 arts & music festival, ‘Summer Sounds’.
The festival is a week-long curated programme of events that take place both online and on-site in 20 participating schools across four cities. The programme includes workshops, classes, and entertainment provided by invited professionals from the creative industry.
As part of the project, Ark ran student engagement workshops so that the students could give their input into what the festival would entail. The students created drawings of their ideal imaginary festivals, assigned colours for each of the five days, and came up with various key words that they thought best represented the essence of the project. I was then asked to use the results of the workshops to inspire my designs.
The overall sentiment that I took away from the students’ work was that the festival should be a moment of coming together after so much separation and detachment due to the international coronavirus pandemic as well as a celebration of colour, positivity, and friendship.
I created an imagined festival area map, festival lineup posters for each day, and a checklist form that the students could use and take home with them.
